Hoshizora no Memoria starts when the protagonist (You) and his little sister (Chinami) moves back to Hibarigasaki after moving away seven years ago. He remembers that he made a promise with a girl that he’d return and they’d get married. However, when You goes to the lookout (the place he made the promise), he meets a silver-haired grim reaper named Mare.
When You transfers into the local school, he joins the Astronomy Lovers Club (Tenkuru) as the club is close to closure because of the lack of members.
Asuho is Tenkuru’s vice president (the president is Okaizumi from the 3rd year) who works part-time at her father’s cafe called the Milky Way. She’s also the class president and is always cheerful. I got a bit emotional towards the end of her route, but if you’re aiming for the other routes, she seems like quite a clingy character.
Komomo is the enemy of Asuho because she’s in the Student Council and tells Asuho that the club will need to be closed. Komomo is your regular twintailed tsundere and tries her best in everything she does.
Kosame is a member of Tenkuru despite being the younger twin of Komomo. She is well-mannered and shares an ongoing yuri joke with Komomo. Kosame and Komomo’s route share the same story, but from different perspectives. You have to go through Komomo’s route first (which is good, since it centred around Kosame) before going to Kosame’s route to discover how she felt about it. I think that the story worked better from Kosame’s perspective though.
Aoi is a 1st year student who lives next door to You and Chinami. They meet regularly in the in the morning while going to school, and they also begin to eat dinner together. She’s a closed-off person but very sharp-tongued (‘jump off a bridge’). Aoi has a little sister called Suzuha who’s good friends with Chinami. Aoi’s my favourite character in the series and her route brought me to tears- the friendship between Chinami and Aoi was beautiful.
Chinami is You’s ‘idiot-of-a-sister’ and classmates with Aoi. Many people dislike her but I’ve grown fond of her because of her energetic personality. Her route seemed like a bonus route as it didn’t add much to the storyline.
Mare’s a shy grim reaper who reaped You’s ‘nightmare’ when he arrived at the lookout. Not much is known about her, other than she looks like a certain person…
I enjoyed playing Hoshizora no Memoria because it was like a large puzzle- every time you complete a route, you were closer to seeing the whole picture. Overall, the game is emotional and heart-warming as it relates to the trials of friendship and family and relates to the supernatural. There are many laugh-out-loud moments in the game and is a definite must-play.
The music in Hoshizora no Memoria is quite good too- this theme (同じ星に生まれて) plays whenever there’s a revelation and is an effective track for those critical moments. The vocal tracks are sung by well-known doujin vocalists- Miyuki Hashimoto, Haruka Shimotsuki and Chata.
