The episode starts off with Araragi being held hostage by none other than Hitagi. It feels nostalgic to hear Hitagi again after so long, and she teases Araragi with things like drinking water off her fingers or asking what he’d like to eat, even though there’s only onigiri.
The episode jumps back to his brief conversation with Tsukihi. Araragi remembers that Nadeko invited him to her house so he seizes the opportunity.
Along the way he sees Hachikuji with her enormous bag. He prepares for what seems like the 100m sprint and runs off to hug and kiss her.
‘Well isn’t it Araragi Yumiko?’
At least she got the surname right, Arararagi.
‘It’s like an unaired anime.’
He tells her about his dilemma- whether to tell his sisters that he’s a vampire.
‘What else is there in the world apart from money?’
Araragi answers ‘love?’
Hachikuji replies ‘Love? I’ve seen that in a supermarket before.’
‘For sale? In a supermarket?’
‘Yeah. Discounted price at 298 Yen.’
‘Very well. I accept your challenge.’
Then the conversation goes to Hachikuji’s theory on using the word ‘courage’. She says that it can make anything sound cool. And Araragi challenges her.
‘The courage to lie to your lover.’
‘The courage to betray your comrades.’
‘The courage to be lazy.’
‘The courage to admit defeat.’
Araragi admits defeat. ‘The courage to accept being a hentai.’ Hachikuji’s theory has backfired on her.
After watching the first episode of Nisemonogatari, I already wanted to watch the second episode even though it would take a week. Nadeko next episode!
