How to Take Off Your Mask (HTTOYM) is a cute fantasy romance otome visual novel from roseVeRte, an indie developer which specialises in making visual novels for girls.
HTTOYM features a heroine named Lilia who is a baker along with her clumsy childhood friend Ronan. Lilia suddenly wakes up one day and finds out that she’s a ‘luccretia’, a human with cat characteristics. Shocked at the transformation, she runs from her house and bumps into the city guard which looks like Ronan. Is this her childhood friend or is it someone else?
This visual novel is about the characters discovering their true selves, the choices that you make in the game will affect Lilia’s personality and the story. HTTOYM is fully voiced and takes around 5-6 hours to complete. The official website can be found here and will be released on Steam on 10th July. In the meanwhile you can play through the demo.
Undead Darlings ~no cure for love~ is a zombie-filled visual novel with RPG elements from Mr.Tired, which is made up of former NIS America employees, and the character design & artist Hitsukuya is known for her cute art. The protagonist Reginald “Reggie” P. Happenstahnce wakes up from an alcohol-induced coma and finds out that there has been an outbreak of zombie plague, and is entrusted to deliver the cure (created by his scientist father) to a safe place where it can be mass produced. On his journey he meets undead girls with human hearts and Buck who helps out with transportation.
There are three sections of gameplay which makes it unique to other games:
- A visual novel section where you are given choices and can bond with various girls using the Affection Point system
- A 3D dungeon crawling section where you can take three party members to explore dungeons and collect loot
- A turn-based battle section which uses the EE (Exponential Exploitation system), encouraging the use of different skills to unlock combo attacks
Mr.Tired are currently looking to fund the PC version, with more voicing along with a possible PS4 and PSV release listed as stretch goals. You can check out the Kickstarter here.
