We had the wonderful opportunity to interview voice actor Daisuke Sakaguchi at Fanime 2016!
First we like to ask about your roots: what inspired you to do voice acting?
I really wanted to participate in Gundam.
What are some modern work trends you like? Any older methods you miss?
More opportunities, being able to come to the United States. Nowadays there’s singing, doing radio, etc.
SacAnime Winter 2016 was the con that propelled us into the start of 2016 with attendees eager to dance, sing, cheer, discover rare treasures in the dealer hall, and most importantly cosplayers! The force is strong in this community at least because the 501 Legion was around, and we had a slew of big name guests such as Chris Sarandon, Ken Page, Crispin Freeman, and Todd Haberkorn just to name a few.
If you are a Borderlands fan then this SacAnime was for you as fans flocked all over to have a chance to meet some of most popular voice actors for Borderlands. Ashly Burch was one of the most popular to appear as she voiced Tiny Tina from Borderlands 2, along with Dameon Clarke, David Eddings, Adam May, and Cherami Leigh.
Welcome to Neko’s Shiritori Fanime 2015 coverage! Fanime is a convention held in the San Jose McEnery Convention Center (SJCC), in downtown San Jose so it was convenient to get to. There was no sight of registration line issues this year. Unfortunately ticket prices have hiked across the board due to Fanime’s rapidly growing attendance rate. On the upside we have also seen the fruits of Fanime’s extra efforts to further improve the overall atmosphere.
Happy Spring everybody! Last month we had the honor of attending Big Wow Comicfest located in San Jose. At Big Wow we saw a big stage which featured Steve Wozniak presenting at a booth promoting Silicon Valley Comic Con. Big Wow will become part of the SVCC family, and the first SVCC will be March 19 and 20 in 2016, also held in the San Jose Convention Center.
Greetings from Neko’s Shiritori! Thanks to Dominic Nguyen, head of press relations of AOD, we were granted the opportunity to attend Animation on Display, located at the Hyatt Hotel in Burlingame!
AOD was held during January 31 to February 1st, the same weekend as the Super Bowl and Magic the Gathering Grand Prix in San Jose. Given that AOD was at the Hyatt Hotel, they had favorable deals for staying at the hotel for those who attended both days.
Greeting from Neko’s Shiritori! We were interested in attending Kraken Con and managed to speak with some representatives back at SacAnime in 2014. Kraken Con is biannual, and initially started as a one day convention. As it grew larger it expanded to two days which greatly bolstered activity, knowing that goods to sell did not have to be shipped out the same day as it came in. Being located in the Oakland Convention Center was surprisingly useful as it was situated between a ring of restaurants and could house a number of people with ample parking.
June has been a very busy month for us in general, so we hope to pick up the speed after some vacation time.
Last month in June, roughly 3 months after release, Atelier Escha & Logy costume DLC is available for purchase. The price is $3.00 per outfit.
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate showed Phase 4 DLC content prior to its scheduled release. No new DLC has released since then.
Atelier Rorona Plus came out in late June. Unfortunately, we did not get the opportunity to review the game. We were informed however, that the game managed to score an R-18 rating in Europe. The box itself states that the game has references to sexual violence. This rating is greatly reminiscent of Australia’s R-18 rating for Atelier Totori Plus last year for identical reasons.
In July, Tecmo Koei officially renamed themselves Koei Tecmo. This helps for consistency purposes since their logo indeed says KT.
As far as convention goes, we will be heading over to Los Angeles for Anime Expo. We will be arriving on day 1 around 3:50 PM and plan on utilizing the exhibition only pass that goes from 4:00 PM. Hope to see attendees there!
